Marketing and Communications Student Assistant

We are seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic Undergraduate or Graduate Student to join our team for the summer to provide support for our communications and outreach initiatives.


Primary Purpose: In this position, you will play a key role in developing and executing marketing initiatives to promote our department and engage various stakeholders, including alumni, donors, industry partners, and current and future students. You will also help coordinate and execute outreach events and engage with diverse audiences.

Nature of Work: Reporting to the Academic Programs and Outreach Coordinator, this is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing, communications, event planning, community engagement, and organizational outreach.

Typical Duties or Accountabilities:

  • Assist with research and planning of department marketing initiatives
  • Develop and produce digital content for social media channels to align with media promotion and marketing initiatives
  • Write and edit communications such as website news articles, social media content, and email newsletters to highlight research, student, and alumni success stories.
  • Maintain and update the department website and PAWS channels through use of the Cascade CMS
  • Collaborate with the events team to assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of various events and outreach initiatives
  • Capture photos and videos during events for documentation and promotional purposes, showcasing the vibrant and engaging event atmosphere
  • Undertake additional tasks as assigned to ensure the overall success of marketing and event initiatives

Education: Current undergraduate or graduate student in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management, Computer Science or a related discipline 

Experience:

  • Knowledge of marketing and communications principles
  • Experience with using social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
  • Experience with Content Management Systems is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of photography and videography, including treating multimedia content is preferred

  • An interest in community engagement, outreach, and event planning, demonstrated through coursework, extracurricular activities, or volunteer work
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively
  • Capacity to think critically, analyze challenges, and take initiative
  • Strong interpersonal and networking skills
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
