Compensation Range
$6,551.00 - $9,418.83 CAD Monthly

The Compensation Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Description Summary
The Manager, Nutrition and Wellbeing is responsible for developing and leading or facilitating programs, projects, presentations and initiatives that enhance students health and wellbeing, with a focus on food and nutrition, within Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS). Provides leadership to SHCS-wide initiatives related to food, nutrition and health, and work closely with the Associate Directors (Food Service), Executive Chef and Culinary Director, and the Communications and Marketing Director.
Organizational Status
Reports to the Director, Food Services and works closely with all SHCS staff, residence students and a number of other departments and faculties within the broader UBC community.
Work Performed
Leads the development and implementation of SHCS-wide initiatives related to food, nutrition and health.
Develops and implements evidence-based nutrition education and health promotion initiatives to enrich student learning and health, with a focus on the first year experience.
Develops evidence-based educational materials and workshops for students & staff on a variety of topics focused on health and wellness.
Develops and organizes wellness programs for students & staff that enhance overall health and promote healthy lifestyles.
Provides confidential one-on-one counselling with residents via a variety of channels, including email, phone, and in-person, regarding topics including but not limited to: Nutrition counselling for weight related issues, disordered eating, restrictive or modified diets due to intolerances or allergies, vegan and vegetarian diets, sports nutrition, and positive body image.
Positions SHCS as a leader in health promotion, including working with other departments on various projects and initiatives, and creating/maintaining partnerships with others working in health promotion at UBC.
In collaboration with the Marketing & Communications team, creates marketing materials to promote wellness services and programs.
Works with the Residence Life team to enhance connection to students and promote wellness services and programs.
Provides education and guidance to culinary teams regarding menu and recipe nutrition. Analyzes menus and recipes to determine nutritional values
Facilitates training for food service teams regarding procedures for dealing with food allergies and communication.
Maintains, updates and creates content for blogs, websites and social media channels in collaboration with Marketing & Communications.
Collaborates with campus partners specifically across the VP Students portfolio, to facilitate programs, workshops, communications and other initiatives related to student & staff wellbeing.

Identifies and completes appropriate wellness projects as required.
Represents SHCS for UBC Wellbeing and co-chairs the UBC Wellbeing Food and Nutrition Working Group
Collaborates with the Faculty of Land & Food Systems, specifically with the Food, Nutrition & Health program and Dietetics program
Works with Student Health Services to initiate consults and medical interventions as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Failure to provide appropriate advice about diet and nutrition could have an adverse effect on the health and wellbeing of Students, staff and the broader university community. Poor judgment, decision-making, and/or errors could also involve legal and/or financial liability for the University and could have a damaging impact on the credibility and reputation of the Department and University.
Supervision Received
Works with considerable latitude and minimal supervision. Work is reviewed in terms of effectiveness and achievement of objectives. Reports directly to the Director, Food Services.
Supervision Given
The Manager, Nutrition and Wellbeing will have the supervision of 1 direct report and student workers.
Minimum Qualifications

University degree with a background in health, wellness, education or nutrition. A minimum of 3 years of recent related experience.  Registered Dietitian in good standing with The College of Dietitians of BC is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in working with students and providing nutritional counselling.

Experience with flexible and open learning techniques is desirable. Superior written and verbal communication skills required.
Proven experience developing and implementing health & wellbeing programs.

Ability to work effectively with various levels of staff, students and the general public.
Ability to work effectively independently and in a team environment.
