Reporting to the Director of Student Experience, the Manager, Learning Services is responsible for providing leadership to the Learning Services team at NAIT. This team offers assistance to students to enhance their learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. The role involves collaborating with various programs to assist instructors in accommodating students with diverse learning needs, as well as aiding students in achieving academic success and overcoming learning obstacles.
Key responsibilities include overseeing staff, managing workflow, addressing disciplinary matters, conducting performance assessments, establishing policies and guidelines, preparing and managing budgets, and developing business plans for all facets of Learning Services. This encompasses providing support in student accommodation advising, delivering materials in alternative formats, coordinating exams, facilitating CART services, interpreting sign language, arranging note-taking assistance, offering learning strategies, and any other necessary services. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong collaborative skills by engaging with leaders from other student-oriented services to comprehend the wider scope of student needs and identify potential avenues for support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provides strategic visioning and leadership to the Learning Services teams
- Manages engagement with instructors, students, and community to further advance mandate of supporting student learning experience.
- Provides leadership that will identify campus-wide strategic initiatives and innovations, develop proposals and suggest prioritizations on learning support initiatives:
- Advises on and supports current campus-wide learning support initiatives
- Initiates new procedures and innovative ways of working with our faculty who must support students with learning differences
- Initiates new procedures and innovative ways of supporting our students with specific and unique learning needs
- Supports a case management approach to support students who have specific government funding due to their learning needs.
- Researches, analyzes, evaluates and recommends emerging practices in working with students to meet diverse learning needs
- Fosters teamwork and collaboration among a diverse group of skilled faculty, staff, students and administrators
- Provides project leadership on projects assigned to learning services
- Keeps abreast of research, trends, and innovations in pedagogy (in face-to-face, blended, and online education) from a learner perspective, as well as research and trends on learning support.
- HR and Finance: budgetary management, staff planning and recruitment
- Works directly with Associate Deans to create mechanisms of support for faculty, program and school leadership to ensure that NAIT is best positioned for removing barriers to learning.
- External communications: Works with government agencies, reporting on the government grant revenues received
- Relevant communication with other post-secondary institutions, the Post Secondary Accessibility Disability Resource Association (PADRA), secondary schools, disability-related organizations and community organizations.

- Familiar with diversity and disability theories, principles, and practices, in addition to having practical working knowledge of different disabilities. Understanding of the impact of disability for individuals in a social, academic, employment and community setting.
- Knowledge of assessment for learning disabilities, intake procedures, case management, accommodation procedures, referral and support processes.
- Knowledge of Human Rights Legislation, knowledge of funding sources and processes; FOIP
- General understanding of change leadership and social change theory and models (Disability Rights movement, Social Model of Disability, Social-political Model of Disability, Social Justice Theory, Universal Design Theory and Principles, Disability Studies, and Appreciative Inquiry.)
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to communicate complex concepts and ideas in a compelling way
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree - preferably in gender studies, social justice, sociology, political science, or other related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Significant related professional experience
- Incumbent must be very familiar with Duty to Accommodate, NAIT Academic Regulations, admissions policies and program information, accommodations, technologies, and universal design concepts
Remuneration: $ 96,356.78 - $ 127,657.66 annually, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
