The Manager, Content Strategy leads  a team of content specialists that ensure content meets institutional standards for accessibility, SEO, and website performance. Reporting to the Director, Digital and Creative, the Manager, Content Strategy is accountable for the implementation and execution of the institutional content strategy across digital channels.

The primary role of the Manager, Content Strategy, is to lead the content team within External Relations. This position will be one of the key contacts for the Communications and Marketing Partners in Strategic Communications, working together to ensure digital content needs for partners align with the overall U of A Digital and Brand strategies. Working closely with the Manager of Digital Strategy, you will develop University-wide content strategies. 

As the leader of your team, you understand the linkages between individual performance and University performance and are able to create an environment that ensures clear communication of strategic objectives and develop operational and short term action plans that align with these objectives.

As a strategic resource you will work with Communications and Marketing partners to ensure the strategic objectives of the colleges, faculties and units are executed through web content updates and new content development.

  • Advise colleague across campus on best practices in regards to web content
  • Ensure all units across campus leverage institutional content where appropriate to take advantages of systems in place and avoid duplication of content.
  • Contribute professional and managerial expertise to the development of plans, objectives, solutions, policies and procedures.
  • Synthesizes complex information gathered from a variety of internal and external sources. Completes environment scanning and assesses opportunities and risks. Tracks key analytics and develops reports to support decision making. 

As a key relationship manager, you will be responsible for working with the partners to ensure annual content plans are developed and aligned with college/faculty/unit goals as well as aligning with the U of A’s institutional digital and brand strategies.

  • Fosters cooperation, collaboration, and communication to create consensus and accomplish objectives.
  • Probes the ideas of others and defines new concepts to facilitate mutual understanding and therefore collaborative problem solving.
  • Fosters an environment that emphasizes knowledge sharing. Encourages cross area cooperation and collaboration.

Specific responsibilities also include:

  • Leads team of 9 to implement U of A’s digital content strategy across institutional websites
  • Responsible for leading and coordinating web content support of units across campus
  • Coordinate content production schedules according to institutional priorities and college/faculty priorities
  • First point of contact for crisis communications updates
  • Leads implementation of content standards across U of A digital content in order to enhance SEO optimization, accessibility, page performance
  • Implements process and procedures for working with Communications Partners to ensure College, Faculty and Unit sites are in compliance with institutional digital strategy

To be successful in this position, the incumbent will possess the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, digital media or equivalent experience. 5-10 years working in a complex post-secondary or non-profit environment.
  • Expert knowledge in content strategy, basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, strong interpersonal skills.
  • Extensive experience with Enterprise Content Management systems.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and CSS
  • Working knowledge of Bootstrap 5
  • Background in writing for the web and digital communications.

In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement , this full time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and annual salary range of $72,929 - $121,553.

COVID-19 Vaccination: Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 in compliance with the University’s COVID-19 Vaccination Directive. Fully Vaccinated means a status an individual achieves 14 days after having received the recommended number of doses of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Health Canada or the World Health Organization, and requires the individual to maintain the recommended number and type of vaccine doses as updated and required by Health Canada thereafter.
