About the opportunity | The Department of Sociology and Social Anthropology invites applications for a 100%, 10-month limited term teaching position at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Professor in Sociology, commencing August 1, 2024. Applicants should hold a PhD in Sociology (or a PhD in a closely related field, with previous degrees in Sociology) or be near completion, and should have experience in university-level teaching. This appointment will entail teaching 3 classes in each of fall and winter terms: SOSA 1003 Introduction to Sociology, SOSA 2101 Environment and Culture, SOSA 3260 Deviance & Society, SOSA 3281 Youth Crime, SOSA 3291 Corrections, and SOSA 401X Special Topics on a topic related to the sociology of the environment. Established in 1818, Dalhousie is a leading research-intensive university offering more than 180 degree programs in 13 faculties. It is the largest university in Atlantic Canada and is located in the heart of Halifax, a scenic coastal city and capital of Nova Scotia, which is home to 13 Mi’kmaq First Nations, a deeply rooted African Nova Scotian community, and an increasingly diverse population. The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is a dynamic body of students, faculty, and staff arranged in more than twenty programs and departments, many offering graduate degrees.
