Job Summary
Reporting to the Utilities Manager/Utilities Supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for the installation, removal, repair and preventive maintenance of mechanical door hardware on the University campus.
Key Responsibilities
  • Installs and repairs mechanical locking and security hardware, electric strikes, electronic locksets and magnetic locks.
  • Performs preventive maintenance (PM) tasks on mechanical locking and security hardware, electric strikes, electronic locksets and magnetic locks.
  • Prepares authorized new or duplicate keys from existing keys, patterns or codes.
  • Prepares key codes for buildings, develops master keying hierarchy, and maintains a comprehensive cross reference key file with all pertinent information (locations, number, type, key codes, etc.)
  • Utilizes Famis charge materials from inventory to work orders, complete daily time card and schedule and close work orders upon completion.
  • Liaises with Stores personnel regarding procurement of non stock materials and adjustment of min/max values.
  • Participates in the annual cycle count of the access control inventory.
  • Opens locks for which there is no key.
  • Prepares cost estimates, as required
  • Performs all duties in accordance with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health &
  • Safety act, as well as University and government rules and regulations and applicable fire and building codes.
  • Maintains a clean work environment
  • Provides assistance to and receives assistance from Access Control Mechanic 1’s as required
  • Performs other duties, as required
Note
Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
Required Qualifications
  • Valid certificate of training as recognised by Best Universal Locks, or equivalent
  • Five years recent and related experience required
  • Familiarity with installation, maintenance and programming of electronic access control devices would be an asset.
  • Computer literacy required
  • Familiar with the current Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety act, as well as
  • University and government rules and regulations and applicable fire and building codes
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings and blueprints
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Ability to take direction
  • Good communication (oral and written) and organisational skills
  • Knowledge of tools of the trade
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime, and respond to after hours calls as required
