The A. D. Allen Chemistry Library (https://chemistry.library.utoronto.ca/ ) at the University of Toronto , located on the St. George campus, is hiring 4 Library Assistants through UofT’s Work Study Program (https://clnx.utoronto.ca/students/wspublicstudents.htm ) for the Summer 2024 program period.

Located in Lash Miller Laboratories (80 St. George Street), the Chemistry Library is a small departmental library that provides information services, study spaces, research and teaching support to students, faculty, and staff associated with the Department of Chemistry, as well as the broader U of T community.
• Start and end dates: May 6 – August 16, 2024
• Hours per week: 6-8 hours
• Regular shifts will be assigned and are designed each semester to accommodate course schedules. Please note that the positions will be in-person at the library.

What you’ll be doing
Under the supervision of the Chemistry Librarian, Library Assistants work at the library service desk to provide customer support and library services to students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include:
• Responding to basic research questions and providing information about library services & resources.
• Checking materials in and out to library users, shelving, and shelf-reading.
• Collaborating with the librarian on special projects that advance the mission of the library. Projects vary by role, please see more details below.
• Other duties as assigned.

There are 3 different types of Library Assistant roles available. You are welcome to apply for more than one!

Library Assistant – Collections & Archives (Job ID#: 234146)
• 2 positions available
• Special projects include supporting the description, maintenance, promotion, and assessment of library collections.

Library Assistant – Marketing and Outreach (Job ID#: 234186)
• 1 position available
• Special projects include creating digital and physical promotional materials for the library, such as social media content, posters, and displays.

Library Assistant – Research and eLearning (Job ID#: 234169)
• 1 position available
• Special projects include conducting environmental scans and creating digital information resources to support education and research.

Required Qualifications
• Available to work in-person at the library at least 6 hours per week (Mon – Fri, 10am to 5pm)
• Ability to work independently and practice effective problem-solving.
• Adaptable team player with excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Attention to detail and a willingness to learn.

Preferred Qualifications
• Experience and/or interest in working in libraries.

**Required Summer Course Load
• Undergraduate students: must be enrolled in at least 0.5 FCE (full course equivalent).
• Graduate students: must be registered for the summer session.
