Position Details
This position will entail work in the Library Archives (50%), Digitization (10%), and in the stacks programming RFID tags on printed materials (40%). Descriptions of each area’s tasks are as follows:
Archives Assistant
Primary duties:
  • Processing of records that have been selected for inclusion in the Archives. This work will include sorting files to ensure that they are in the correct order. Physical preparation of files (removal from binders, removal of staples, clips, etc.). Foldering and labeling of files. Boxing and shelving of files. Note that some physical strength will be required in the lifting and moving of heavy boxes (up to 22.7 kg/50 lbs)
  • Updating of Archives General Inventory data
  • Assistance with the reorganization of the Archives collection

Digitization Assistant
Primary duties:
  • Responsible for assisting with the creation of newly digitized content of local and cultural significance to Southern Alberta. Tasks include: digitizing materials, uploading images into the Library’s ContentDM application

RFID Assistant
Primary duties:
  • Apply and program radio frequency identification (RFID) labels to materials in the Library’s collection. Attention to detail for sustained periods of time and technology troubleshooting skills are required. This is a team duty and the successful applicant will maintain an accurate record of progress.

This position will appeal to someone who is organized, detail-oriented, has an aptitude for technology, and can work both independently and as part of a team.
Hourly Rate of Pay: $17.20/hr
Position Qualifications
Due to funding requirements, this role is restricted to Canadian citizens who are Alberta residents under the age of 30 and are full or part-time students enrolled with an Alberta Post-Secondary institution. The viability of this position may be contingent upon the approval of federal funding.
