Your opportunity:

The University of Toronto Scarborough has been a leader in co-operative education, combining academic study with alternating work terms, for 40 years. Co-operative education gives students an opportunity to utilize skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Arts and Science Department is responsible for preparing students in over 37 unique program areas to compete for paid co-op work opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contributes to the development of well-qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. With a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion, the department works closely with campus and employer partners to support students as they work to achieve their academic and co-op aspirations.

Reporting to the Assistant Director, Student Services, the Learning Module Designer will work with existing content gathered from subject matter experts to produce a suite of e-learning modules for Arts & Science Co-op students which focus on skill development of core skills such as teamwork, communication, data literacy, self-management and resilience. These foundational skills future proof co-op students – allowing them to succeed in their job search, while on work term in the co-op program, and beyond graduation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing e-learning modules and online assessments using existing software for instructional purposes
  • Creating program and course materials
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for assigned projects
  • Conducting detailed analysis and evaluation to inform program planning activities
  • Researching and recommending educational technologies and best practices related to teaching and learning
  • Analyzing needs and recommending appropriate technologies for teaching/learning goals


Essential Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in a relevant field, or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of experience in instructional design and developing and delivering learning programs for hybrid or online learning environments
  • Experience conducting needs assessments and recommending effective learning solutions
  • Expertise using Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, Quercus or Blackboard
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
  • Experience using Adobe, InDesign, authoring tools (eg. Articulate Storyline) and screen recording tools
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Effective problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
