This position has a term length of 10 months.

The Landscape Service Worker I performs a number of duties related to the maintenance and construction of a variety of hard and soft landscape features. Work may be performed on North Campus, as well as other campus locations.

Please note, hours of work are 6:00 am to 2:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Duties

  • Responsible for a variety of tasks that include both manual labour and small equipment operation to maintain both hard and soft landscapes
  • Performs soft landscaping; pruning and planting of shrubs and trees
  • Completes snow removal, mowing, line trimming and other soft landscape maintenance
  • Carries out seasonal and other tasks such as spring clean-up; removes sand and chips from entrances and walkways; snow removal on hard landscape using various hand tools and backpack blowers
  • Responsible for maintaining safe passage of entrances and walkways in all weather conditions; use of rock chip and de-icer as required

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma 
  • Minimum 1 year experience in related position
  • Horticulture Diploma or Journeyman Landscape Gardener License considered an asset
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License
  • Computer literate
  • Courses and/or experience in the following areas would benefit the incumbent in the performance of their duties(but not mandatory); Horticultural, Irrigation, First Aid, Pruning, WHMIS training, Safety procedure, Driver's Safety courses

Conditions of Employment

  • Successful candidates are required to provide an up to date driver’s abstract with less than 6 demerits and meet the requirements as laid out in the University of Alberta Policies and Procedure
