Position Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology. Prepares materials and equipment. Compiles data. Demonstrates techniques. Maintains equipment.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
(i) Participates in the execution of laboratory projects and experiments. Performs a variety of specialized technical tasks according to established methodology.
(ii) Prepares and sets up materials and equipment. Performs a variety of assays, analyses and tests.
(iii) Records results, performs calculations and compiles data. Maintains records and files.
(iv) Ensures the cleanliness and safety of the work area.
(v) Maintains inventory. Purchases equipment and materials.
(vi) Uses a variety of equipment.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities:
- DEC in Biomedical Laboratory Technology or BSc. in a health-related discipline
· At least 2 years of experience with basic laboratory manipulation (centrifugation and aliquoting)
- Bilingual French and English is mandatory (Spoken and Written – Asset if familiar in scientific writing)
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office
- Excellent oral/written communication skills
- Ability to work independently with accuracy
- Ability to problem solve technical and methodological issues that arise during the course of the research project
- Strong organization and interpersonal skills
- Experience in a research laboratory is an asset
- Experience working with the elderly population is an asset
Knowledge of French and English: McGill University is an English-language university where day to day duties may require English communication both verbally and in writing. The level of English required for this position has been assessed at a level 3 on a scale of 0-4.
