SAIT’s Applied Research and Innovation Services department helps partners conceptualize, prototype and deliver products to market. ARIS is on the leading edge of novel technology development. As one of Canada’s top applied-research colleges, SAIT has 50,000 square feet of specialized research labs, facilities, and full-time research staff who are solely dedicated to providing the services organizations need to take their products from concept to prototype. 
The Opportunity
Since 2003, Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) has been acting as the research arm of Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT), one of Canada’s top research polytechnics. Using 50,000 square feet of specialized lab space located at the heart of Calgary and more than 70 research staff, ARIS provides a wide range of research and innovation services to industries in Alberta and across Canada. The Centre for Innovation and Research in Advanced Manufacturing and Materials (CIRAMM) is ARIS’ newest centre dedicated to advanced research in the areas of manufacturing and materials science. CIRAMM is currently in search for a laboratory technician who will be working in CIRAMM’s Advanced Materials Characterization Laboratory. Below is a summary of the job description and required qualifications. 
The Role
    • Design and conduct laboratory experiments using CIRAMM’s state-of-the-art laboratories.
    • Maintain Laboratory equipment.
    • Prepare, maintain, and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
    • Assist CIRAMM’s research staff with their laboratory needs.
    • Liaise with industry partners and clients.
    • Scope work and lay out research plans and activities.
    • Analyze data and prepare reports and scientific publications.
    • Work with industry partners and field personnel to handle project issues as they arise.
    • Initiate and lead industry outreach programs.
    • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications
    • Post secondary degree: Laboratory technologist, materials science or chemical engineering with relevant research experience.
    • Proven experience in characterizing materials (operation and analysis): XRD, SEM (EDS/EBSD), DSC/TGA, DMA, mechanical testing, electrochemical corrosion analysis, tribology, X-ray microtomography, and optical microscopy.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of materials testing standards.
    • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).
    • Demonstrated understanding of project management concepts.
    • Can work independently in a fast-paced environment
