TERM Assignment:

Duties and Responsibilities:

The laboratory coordinator:
• Prepares materials and reagents for undergraduate laboratory sections, ensures consistency and uniformity between laboratory sections and oversees preparation of teaching assistants for each laboratory exercise.
• Supervises aspects of the laboratory including implementation and adherence to all applicable safety regulations.
• Supervises the instructional activities of teaching assistants who are members of CUPE local 4600, other external or undergraduate teaching assistants, undergraduate students, and work study student (s) if applicable.
• Monitors the effectiveness of the laboratory exercises and assesses the need for changes in the laboratory course content; recommends changes to the appropriate faculty member/instructor assigned to the course, and implements improvements and updates on a regular and on-going basis.
• Performs other duties as required.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and administrative skills, sound judgment;
• Relevant theoretical knowledge in the biological sciences and expertise in a variety of specialized laboratory techniques and procedures;
• Proficiency in the use of pertinent instructional, technical and administrative IT software is necessary;
• Skills and/or experience at supervising students is an asset.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• An Honours Degree in Biology.
• Three (3) years of work experience in Molecular Biology and or Genetics.
