Laboratory Assistant (MUNA-00004)

Dr. Kyle Elliott's Lab

Department of Natural Resource Sciences (Macdonald Campus)

Fixed-term position, 100% supported by research funds. 

Position Summary:

Provide assistance with routine tasks in support of the Arctic Ecology Lab group (graduate students of Prof. Elliott) conducting research in a laboratory setting as well as in the field (project on conservation of Arctic seabirds).  Ensure availability and working order of equipment used in the lab and in the collection of field samples. 

(i) Decontaminates or sterilizes glassware and other apparatus by autoclaving. 

(ii) Ensures the cleanliness of the washing machines, ovens, autoclaves and ultrasound machines, etc. and the work area. 

(iii) Takes inventory and monitors supplies of products necessary to performing duties. 

(iv) Uses and maintains appropriate machinery, tools, materials and instruments. 

(v) Completes simple reports.

Required Qualifications

Ability to pay attention to details and to follow directives.  Demonstrated organizational skills; ability to multi-task.  Accuracy when entering data.  Interest in the field of ecology and wildlife.  Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols (WHMIS) or willingness to take training to learn protocols.   Demonstrated experience with use of MS Excel and Word.

Hourly Salary:

(MUNACA Level 01B) $19.43 - $26.78
