Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the incumbent may perform some or all of the listed functions below. These functions are of moderate complexity and the incumbent performs them using established instructions. The incumbent will be part of the NSERC/Alliance-funded ReCONstruct project (2022‐2026), led by Professor Michael Jemtrud, from the Peter Guo‐hua Fu School of Architecture. The project is also funded by Hydro‐Québec and the Québec Ministère de l’Environnement, de la Lutte contre les changements climatiques, de la Faune et des Parcs.


The incumbent will be embedded in the Architectural Solutions team of ReCONstruct under the direct supervision of the that team’s lead. In the first phase of the work, the incumbent will contribute to Building Information Modelling for a retrofit pilot project that ReCONstruct is realizing. They will help produce a package of schematic drawings and related documents that will be used to engage with various stakeholders relevant to dimensions of the pilot project, including to help assess costs, evaluate and mobilize the manufacturing capacity for prefabricated panels, and hire and support the professional design team who will produce the final production drawings. The incumbent will also work with ReCONstruct’s research partners, including most likely for this role, the Carleton Immersive Media 2 Studio (CIMS), to help develop a protocol to manage BIM and other building information and streamline the sequence from building capture to design for manufacturing and assembly, to fabrication and installation. Other related tasks could be added, according to the evolving needs of ReCONstruct and the incumbent’s interests and skillset.

It is expected that the incumbent will participate in determining the orientation of their own and their team’s work, as well as in supporting the work of fellow team members. Work will be done in hybrid mode (remote and in‐person), as agreed upon on an ongoing basis by the incumbent and supervisor.
