Position Summary

Reporting to the Team Lead of Identity and Access Services, and working with the Identity and Access Technical Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for the development, monitoring, and support of the core systems required to fulfill the business needs of the University.


This position will have a variety of unique identity and access related challenges given the size of our institution. Along with writing and reviewing code, you will be involved with testing and troubleshooting problems in an expansive and dynamic environment.

Duties

  • Maintains existing computer programs by creating tests and modifications as required.
  • Writes, modifies, integrates, and tests software code in a variety of languages (Java, Python, Ruby, PHP) on Linux based systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and investigate client incidents affecting clients and services.
  • Develops test code for complex code functions to ensure components are fit for purpose.
  • Participate in the code review process.
  • Works independently to research, and develop prototypes to develop solutions and troubleshoot problems in a complex environment.
  • Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards.
  • Minimizes our exposure and risk on projects.
  • Ensures project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Prepare new and existing applications to run in containerized environments using Docker, Kubernetes, AWS.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Computing Science or a related field or equivalent Technical Diploma combined with relevant experience.
  • Minimum 4 - 6 years of experience developing software for large and complex IT environments.
  • Programming/scripting experience with Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, ksh/sh.
  • Minimum 4 years of working experience with Linux systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with IdentityIQ, Kerberos, LDAP, AFS, Google Apps, Linux, and cyber security is an asset.
  • Experience with automating builds and releases (CI/CD), configuration management, infrastructure as code is a benefit.
  • Experience with containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, etc) is a benefit.
  • Experience with DevOps, and SDLC concepts.
  • Understanding of ITIL is an asset.
  • Strong communications and facilitation skills.
  • Effective problem solving and process optimization skills.

On-call and overtime may be required on occasion and will be compensated as per the Collective Agreement.
