This position is in accordance with the Academic Teaching Staff (ATS) Agreement  of the University of Alberta. 

This full time position has an appointment end date of June 30, 2024. Part time applications will also be considered. 

Salary will be commensurate with experience in accordance with the ATS Agreement which also stipulates the benefits.

Location: Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton.

Department/Faculty Summary

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is consistently ranked among the top three schools in Canada, and top 50 globally and has been the only pharmacy school in Alberta since 1914. The province of Alberta offers the most unique pharmacy practice environment in North America where pharmacists can prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, provide injections, and receive remuneration for patient care services.

The Faculty annually admits 130 student pharmacists to the undergraduate pharmacy program and up to 30 to the PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists program per year, and maintains approximately 60 graduate students on an annual basis.

Position Summary

The individual(s) will have teaching responsibilities in the undergraduate pharmacy programs- PharmD and PharmD for Practicing Pharmacists specifically in the areas of practice skills and evidence based medicine. Other areas of instruction may include mental health pharmacotherapy and pediatrics.

Duties

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to, teaching in related credit courses, including coordinating and delivery of course material, evaluation, and assuring the course work meets defined educational outcomes and accreditation standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A degree in pharmacy is required.
  • The successful candidate(s) will have knowledge of current clinical pharmacy practice. 
  • Applicants must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, by the Alberta College of Pharmacy.
  • A minimum of 2 years of practical and relevant experience in the field is required. The successful candidate will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference will be given to candidates with an advanced degree in pharmacy such as a post-baccalaureate PharmD and/or a Masters or PhD degree.
  • Residency or post-doctoral experience is an asset.
  • Prior experience teaching in a post-secondary setting is an asset.
