About the opportunity
The Faculty of Management at Dalhousie University invites applications for a three-year limited-term appointment as instructor in the area of Quantitative Studies and Learning Support. The appointment is expected to be in the Department of Management Science and Information Systems and to commence on July 1, 2024 (negotiable). Applicants must hold a master’s degree in Management or Decision Science, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Information Systems or a closely related discipline. Related doctoral work or a PhD degree are considered to be a strong asset.
The successful candidate is expected to support the educational mission and vision of the Faculty, which is to “prepare people to work with, inspire and lead others to tackle complex challenges and achieve responsible results” and to build “a world where talented people from the private, public and not-for-profit sectors work together to create social and economic value and new possibilities.” With these same goals in mind, the main role of this position is to lead the creation and oversight of a new Management Education Resource and Learning Centre. The purpose of this new Centre is to offer all management students support in their studies, to enhance their learning experience and success, and to serve as a learning and training hub for faculty-paid tutors and teaching assistants. The successful candidate will serve as the initial Centre Director and in this role manage administrative and student staff to ensure the Centre’s effective and efficient day-to-day operations, provide pedagogical oversight and leadership to student employees, and implement general student programming. The successful candidate will work closely with the Associate Dean Academic and Program Directors and have demonstrated experience and strong skills in leadership, communications, team building and flexibility to work with multiple stakeholders.
The typical course load of limited-term appointments in the Faculty of Management is six (6) courses per year. However, in the first year of their appointment, the successful candidate will be asked to teach only two (2) introductory courses in a related discipline (e.g., Statistics for Managers, Quantitative Decision Making), in addition to serving the role as the Director of the new Centre. This teaching assignment shall help facilitate and strengthen familiarity with relevant programs and enrolled students. In years 2 and 3, the teaching assignment may be adjusted based on the candidate’s performance goals and growth of the Centre.
Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

·Master’s degree in Management or Decision Science, Finance, Economics, Mathematics,
Statistics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Information Systems or a closely related
discipline, and a minimum of two years related work experience in an academic
environment. Related doctoral work or a PhD degree are considered to be a strong asset.
·Teaching experience and an established record of teaching effectiveness, preferably at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels including teaching in person and online.
·Excellent interpersonal, organizational and project management skills, with proven ability to
work well both in a team environment and with a high degree of autonomy.
·Proven ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Desirable Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

·Doctoral work or a PhD degree (completed or in progress) Management or Decision Science,
Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Business Analytics, Information
Systems or a closely related discipline.
·Proven ability to work with students, supervise and train employees, and organize, prioritize
and schedule work assignments.
