The School of Business is one of the largest business schools in Western Canada. Our faculty and staff are passionate about student success in an environment that values academic excellence, teamwork, collaboration, and driving innovation. We deliver programming to more than 3,800 students in credit programs and 10,000 registrants annually in our professional and leadership programs. Our degrees, diplomas, and certificates are aligned to industry and designed to meet the needs of today’s employers. Programming areas include accounting, financial services, human resources, management, supply chain, marketing, administrative, legal, and more.
We are currently recruiting a casual instructor for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2024 semester to teach a law office skills course in Legal Computer Applications II. 
The Role
    • Curriculum
    • Instructors are required to create learning activities and authentic assessments that encourage active and participatory learning and an experiential classroom culture that promotes career-ready skills.
    • Cultivate and nurture an inclusive learning environment and engage with students about their progress.
    • Champion current and innovative pedagogical practices, reflecting adult teaching methodologies and best practices 
    • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders of the program, and school and institution to support regular instructional and program quality improvement.
    • In the Classroom 
    • Manage and lead a safe, positive, inclusive, and dynamic learning environment that allows students to express, share, and challenge ideas respectfully
    • Present courses, lesson plans, lectures, assignments, evaluations, examinations, and learning activities; include additional study materials for learners 
    • Evaluate student progress and facilitate student achievement
    • Respond to academic integrity concerns and report to Academic Chair for follow-up as required
    • Ensure learner accommodations are correctly applied for learners with disabilities.
    • Show personal interest in the learners 
    • Create a climate conducive to optimal learning
    • Coordinate classroom delivery and assessments with faculty colleagues
    • Refer students to institutional supports and campus services including counselling, academic advising, tutoring, career advancement services, technology support, accessibility services, and financial support as required.
    • Provide ongoing support, guidance, and advice to learners and potential learners.
    • Beyond the Classroom
    • Contribute in a positive way to maintain a team environment
    • Attend and engage in meetings, professional development opportunities, and beyond 
    • Maintain and develop contacts in appropriate industry sectors
    • Maintain and develop relationships with academic colleagues
    • Promote and support SAIT’s and the School of Business mission statement and academic plans
    • Commitment to Professional Development and a continual learning culture

Qualifications & Experience
    • Depth of knowledge and expertise in the legal industry, including office procedures and practices. 
    • A minimum of 3 – 5 years of Industry Experience.
    • Comprehensive experience in technology, including extensive skill in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and other industry relevant software.  
    • An aptitude for digital literacy.
    • Demonstrated excellence in communication skills, both written and oral, as well as well-developed interpersonal and organizational skills are essential.
    • Work well in a team environment, and be able to excel in a collaborative environment.
    • Previous teaching or facilitation experience is required, experience at the post-secondary level is preferred.
    • Undergraduate degree is required; a Master’s Degree is an asset.
    • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
