The School for Studies in Art and Culture invites applications for a one-year appointment at the rank of Instructor I, beginning 1 July 2024, from qualified candidates engaged in Musicianship, Conducting, and Western Musicology.

The candidate will be expected to teach 5 semester-length undergraduate courses in the area of musicianship, conducting, and Western musicology; lead a music ensemble; and perform other duties, including participating in assessment of auditions/music portfolios and end-of-term juries, and committee work.

We encourage applications from candidates from groups underrepresented in Music studies.

Carleton University’s Music program is located within the School for Studies in Art and Culture, which also houses programs in Film Studies and Art and Architectural History. The Music program offers a BA in Music, a BMus (with performance studies in jazz, classical, musical theatre, popular music idioms, or traditional musics) and an MA in Music and Culture. Faculty members have research expertise in multiple fields, with an emphasis on ethnomusicology, music theory, popular music, music and technology, and performance studies.
