Position Summary

Under the direction of the Manager of Content and Technologies, the Information Technology Specialist provides technical leadership for the implementation and maintenance of the library’s technical infrastructure, and effective utilization of technology within the organization. This position supports desktop applications, the integrated library system, the LAN/WAN network systems, cloud-based systems, servers, and online presence including website and digital library resources. This position provides project management for selected library technology and assists in the selection, management, deployment, and integration of new technology.

Position Responsibilities

These responsibilities indicate the general nature and level of work expected. The incumbent may be asked to perform other duties as required and as the nature of library services evolve.

Systems and Application Management
• Install, setup and administer computer network servers and workstations
• Maintain and administer the library’s automated telephone contact solution
• Maintain and administer the library’s website in conjunction with other assigned staff
• Maintain and administer the integrated library system (ILS), including upgrades, updates, user accounts and integration of eResources, and peripherals

Project Management
• Provide technical leadership, implementation, and support for technology projects
• Liaise with staff, vendors and others to achieve effective implementation of projects
• Recommend research and plan the implementation of new technology
• In conjunction with Town, determine and plan for connectivity and infrastructure upgrades and changes
• Develop and implement communication plans to roll out new technology including training and support documentation, ongoing learning support, installation, and technical support

Technical Support
• Provide timely and professional on-site and telephone support to resolve hardware, software, network, and operating system issues
• Work with Town to assign support tickets
• Provide database support activities, such as implementation, backup and recovery, testing and upgrades.
• Support off-site technology through remote access and make service calls as required

Supervision
• Assess technical competencies of staff and assist with training
• Hire, train, supervise and evaluate I.T. co-op students

Administration
• Assist in developing and monitoring expenditures for operating and capital budgets for section
• Provide advice on modification or improvement of Library’s infrastructure
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Essential
• University degree in Information Technology or other related discipline
• Five (5) years’ experience in a technology related environment

Technical Competencies
• Proven technical skills in desktop software knowledge and a superior understanding of Microsoft operating systems and office automation software
• Knowledge of programming languages (python, RUBY, PHP, JavaScript), cloud technologies, Azure, and AI
• Proven understanding of LAN/WAN network systems
• Experience with Microsoft Server administration and active directory
• Experience with firewall, VPN technologies, anti-virus/malware applications
• Familiarity with wide range of technology including: tablets, smartphones, 3D printers and scanners
• Knowledge of the management and maintenance of integrated library systems
• Knowledge of application data privacy practices and laws
• Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, best practices and tools
• A valid driver’s license and own transportation

Desirable
• PMP designation
• CompTIA, ITIL Foundation certification

Hours: 35 hours per week. May include evenings and weekends in both Acton and Georgetown Branches.

Salary: $84,360 – $100,428 + competitive benefits and pension
