Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. The Faculty of Science and Technology offers a four-year Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. Students can pursue majors in biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, general science, mathematics, and geology. The Earth and Environmental Sciences department, within the Faculty of Science and Technology, supports three disciplines: Environmental Science, Geography, and Geology.

Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Science and Technology is accepting applications for a part-time appointment for the Winter semester which will commence January and end April 2024.

The department is seeking a qualified professional with the ability to teach the following course:


Igneous Petrology

Days & Times Offered: Winter 2024 term, Monday and Wednesday 10:00 a.m. - 11:20 a.m.

Course Description: This course involves the theoretical and practical study of igneous rocks in hand specimen and thin section. Major topics include the description, classification and origin of igneous rocks. Melting, magma crystallization and magma differentiation are also covered; along with the relationship between tectonics and igneous petrology.


Responsibilities
  • Instruction: Course delivery including preparation and assessments of lectures and labs, and course D2L Brightspace site; and
  • Administration: submit course attendance sheets and final grades upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.

Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree is required in Geology or a closely-related discipline with a PhD preferred.
  • Significant experience instructing undergraduate courses.
