WHO WE ARE:

The Campbellton Centennial Library is one of 63 public libraries that make up the New Brunswick Public Library Service. As the resource centre for the Chaleur Library Region, it serves the City of Campbellton and the surrounding area while providing support to the other libraries in the region and the rest of the library system. The library aims to be a place where people of all ages and
backgrounds can gather while they pursue their educational, social, and recreational needs.

Campbellton is situated in northern New Brunswick on the bank of the Restigouche River and the Chaleur Bay. A simple bridge crossing will take you to the Gaspé region of Québec. Sugarloaf Provincial Park and ski hill is minutes away from the library. The city also has a close relationship with the nearby Mi’gmaq First Nation community of Listuguj.

THE POSITION:

As the Head of Children’s Services, you will supervise a team of two library assistants that oversee services for children in the Chaleur Library Region. You and your team ensure that New Brunswick children and their parents/guardians find books and other items that meet their recreational and learning needs. You plan, promote, deliver, and evaluate library programs and services for
children (including underserved and special needs populations). This includes programs for infants, toddlers, and school-aged children such as the Summer Reading Club, storytime, and Babies in the Library. You help maintain the library’s collections and assist in choosing children’s reading material for the region. You collaborate with colleagues from around the province as you participate on various committees. You also conduct research, compile statistics, and write reports, along with other duties as
assigned.

Working with the public requires being people-focused, compassionate, and able to problem-solve in challenging situations. You will also connect with your counterparts in the other regions of the province working to identify and eliminate barriers to library service and to create an inclusive environment in the library.

Working with us will require daytime, evening, and weekend shifts (based on work schedules). Some travel may also be required. Library work will involve lifting. Working in a large library, you will have full-time, parttime, and on-call employees, as well as volunteers reporting to you. You will report to the Library Director.
