TERM Assignment:

Note that this is a 12-month term position. Carleton University also welcomes applications from continuing employees. Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Manager of Grounds and Moving services, the groundskeeper 1 is responsible for the following:
• Maintain cutting lawns with riding and walk behind mowers and raking, spring cleanup and fall leaf collection, fertilization and irrigation.
• Sweep hard surface roads, sidewalks, steps.
• Maintain shrubs, trees and flowerbeds by cultivating, weeding, fertilizing, pruning and watering.
• Landscaping, planting flowers, shrubs, trees site, preparation, and install sod.
• Remove snow and ice from roads, sidewalks and steps by snow shoveling and installation of salt and salt alternatives to make them in a safe condition.
• Pick litter and pick up trash from garbage receptacles.
• Install road signs.
• Clean equipment, shop and storage area’s.
• Assist in delivering materials and setting up of equipment for outdoor events on campus.
• Perform indoors cleaning tasks during inclement weather.
• Assist with excavations as required.
• Clean up debris following tasks.
• Reads reference materials to determine appropriate job requirements and procedures.
• Understands the proper use of ladders.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Entry level skills in maintenance and repair procedures including preventive maintenance, breakdown repair and trouble-shooting.
• Knowledge of proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools related to job function.
• Ability to read and interpret documents related to job function.
• Ability to effectively work individually and as part of a team.
• Ability to follow through and carry out assignments.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Completion of Grade Twelve or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of relevant experience.
• Have a valid class G (min) driver’s license.
