Facilities and Operations is hiring temporary Grounds staff for summer casual appointments ending September 1st, 2023.

Applicants must be available to work full-time from May until September 1st, 2023. Hours of work are from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

Location - this position is located at North Campus Edmonton and this role is in-person.

Department/Faculty Summary

Facilities and Operations is a divers e portfolio responsible for a range of essential services and work across our five campuses. From managing capital construction and renovations, providing utilities and energy management, to delivering student and campus services, Facilities and Operations work behind the scenes to make the university a great place to study, learn and work.

Position Summary

Facilities and Operations is hiring temporary Grounds staff for summer casual appointments ending September 1st, 2023. The grounds summer student will assist with mowing, pruning, weeding and general grounds maintenance and upkeep around the University Campus. Additionally, there will be opportunities to perform some general, low-level facility maintenance such as painting. The successful candidate can look forward to an energetic, professional team environment.

Please note this position is located at North Campus Edmonton.

Duties

  • Planting, and maintenance of flower beds including fertilization, and weed pruning.
  • Maintenance of the grounds including litter collection, emptying garbage containers, removal of leaves and debris, and on occasion graffiti removal. 
  • Occasional installation and removal and maintenance of ground fixtures such as water features, fountains, etc.
  • Ensure safety protocols are used according to the safety regulations of the UofA and OHS while working in close proximity of large equipment such as: skid steers, loaders, graders, and other large grounds related equipment.

Qualifications

  • Applicants must be available to work full-time from May until September 1st, 2023. Hours of work are from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • High school Diploma. Full-time student status in Fall 2023 and Winter 2024
  • Strong Communication (Oral and Written) skills 
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail 
  • Ability to self-manage workload and work under limited supervision
