Graduate Student Science Outreach Instructor

Location: Saskatoon, SASKATCHEWAN

In the appointment of Student Assistant, your general duties and responsibilities will be:
The Science Outreach Instructors travel in pairs to the same school and work with the same classroom once each week for 13 weeks (term 2 program runs early January – April). Instructors work with classroom teachers to inspire young students through co-leading fun hands-on science and math 
activities from a variety of science disciplines. The last week, instructors co-lead tours and activities for their Kamskénow students on the University of Saskatchewan campus.

Your general location of work will be Williams Building and the assigned school and classroom in Saskatoon and you will report to Cree Longjohn

Required Number of Hours: 6-20 hours per week
Duration of Employment: January 23, 2024 to April 24, 2024

Qualifications (Skills and Abilities)
Our Science Outreach Team is expanding. We are looking for a Science Outreach Instructor who:


-is an senior undergraduates or graduates in sciences, education, engineering or the health sciences.

-is enthusiastic about science and math!

-inspires others to love learning.

-would enjoy working with students who are in grades 4-11.

-after basic training is confident in leading a variety of scientific topics (biology, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, geography, archeology/anthropology, psychology, physics, etc) at a grade 4-11 level.

-has excellent communication skills in English.

-demonstrates cultural competencies and an interest in presenting culturally inclusive science activities (i.e. Indigenous Ways of Knowing).

-is able to carry bins of supplies and equipment (up to 20 pounds).

-will commit to instructing on a regular schedule in at least 2 schools - 6 hours per week for 13 weeks. (More hours are available.)

-will successfully collaborate with co-instructors, classroom teacher, Science Outreach Coordinator and Director of Science Outreach.

-have will a vehicle and are able to travel to schools in the Saskatoon area

You must be registered in a graduate program.
