Assistant Professor

The School of Public Administration at the University of Victoria Campus is located on the traditional territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən peoples.  These territories continue to be home for many Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ nations whose historical relationships with the land are ongoing.  The School of Public Administration is among Canada’s leaders in the delivery of programs in public and non-profit sector administration and community development. The School of Public Administration is dedicated to educating public sector and community leaders who can effectively navigate complex settings. We invite applications for one full-time Assistant Professor with eligibilty for Tenure. The anticipated start date for this position is July 1st, 2024.

The candidate's qualifications, experience and overall market demand will determine a candidate’s final salary offer. The salary for this position includes a competitive salary range of $117,234 - $144,818. UVic is committed to offering an equitable and competitive salary, inclusive of a generous benefits package, eligible leaves and pension plan.

Requirements

Candidates for the appointment must hold a Ph.D., with post-doctoral training or pertinent work experience in a relevant field for public administration. Candidates must have teaching experience and an established research program. The ideal candidate will have work experience or demonstrate qualities for taking academic program leadership responsibilities.

We seek candidates with pertinent expertise in public administration or a related interdisciplinary field such as Indigenous studies, environmental studies, geography, political science, etc. Expertise in applied research and work experience in mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) is required. Community-engaged research, Indigenous governance and self-determination, Indigenous data management/sovereignty, community development, place-based governance and evaluation are considered assets, as well as demonstrated experience working collaboratively with community-based research partners. We encourage interdisciplinary scholars with experience working with Indigenous nations and diverse communities to apply.

We are interested in recruiting a person who collaborates well and is willing to establish research partnerships across disciplines. The ideal candidate is interested in making a difference in their academic and community environments through teaching, research, and university and community service. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in the graduate and undergraduate programs (in both online and on campus formats), supervise graduate students, conduct research and participate in program leadership and administrative management of the School.

Additional information

The School of Public Administration offers multi-disciplinary programs for practicing or prospective leaders, managers and analysts seeking the skills necessary for effective and responsible public management and policy analysis. We offer five undergraduate Professional Specialization Certificates and three Diplomas, as well as graduate-level Master’s degrees in Public Administration (MPA) and Community Development (MACD), a Graduate Certificate and Diploma in Evaluation, and a PhD in Public Administration. Our programs are offered on campus and online.
