The Department of Chemical Engineering at McGill University invites applications for a full-time teaching appointment as a Faculty Lecturer.

The Department of Chemical Engineering is committed to excellence in teaching in its undergraduate program, and values service contributions of its Faculty members to the University, the profession and society at large. A number of faculty have received teaching awards at the Faculty, University, and Provincial levels. 

Successful candidates for the Faculty Lecturer position will contribute to this environment by playing a leading role in teaching multiple undergraduate Chemical Engineering courses in both classroom and laboratory instructional settings, and with a particular emphasis on coursework related to Process Design Engineering.  Furthermore, successful candidates will actively contribute to support undergraduate curriculum development, program evaluation and continuous improvement, accreditation review, and dissemination of pedagogical strategies.

The expected start date is between June 1st, 2024 and September 1st, 2024. The initial appointment is for one year followed by successive two and three-year renewals based on performance review. After 6 years of continuous employment, re-appointment is for an indefinite term as a Faculty Lecturer. Promotion can then lead to a Senior Faculty Lecturer position upon meeting the criteria of the Department and University.

Position Description:
The position is a full-time, campus-based Faculty Lecturer position from candidates who have a background in Chemical Engineering, process design and curriculum development.
Job Duties:

Representative responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach up to the equivalent of 18 credits per academic year with the highest academic standards. An academic year includes fall, winter and summer semesters. Actual course load will depend on the scope of academic, administrative responsibilities/special projects as determined in consultation with the Department Chair;
  • Lead the necessary course content modification and improvement in close collaboration with faculty members and maintain academic rigor of the courses taught;
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to undergraduate and graduate students in best practices in teaching, course design and assessment for learners that foster equity, diversity and inclusion in and out of the classroom;
  • Serve on Departmental, School, Faculty, and University committees and workgroups as needed and available;
  • Liaise with appropriate professional associations and business organizations to draw real-world chemical engineering projects in teaching to ensure that students’ learning outcomes are in alignment with industry and job market needs;
  • Contribute to the Faculty’s and University’s strategic goals and values, such as community and international engagement, creating an inclusive and diverse teaching and learning environment;
  • Other duties as assigned.
     

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Engineering, Education, or a field related to departmental teaching activities.
  • An undergraduate degree in an Engineering discipline is required, and a Chemical Engineering or strongly-related sub-discipline is preferred.
  • Must have, or soon be eligible for, professional engineering licensure through a Canadian Professional Engineering association.
