In accordance with the Administrative and Professional Officer Agreement , this full-time continuing position offers a comprehensive benefits package found on our Benefits Overview page and annual salary range of $72,625 - $121,041.

Location - Work primarily takes place in-person at North Campus Edmonton.

Asset Management & Operations supports our community through operating, maintaining and renewing our infrastructure and providing a number of safety and security services.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager of Engineering, the Facilities Engineer is responsible for assessing University facility assets (within owned, operated or leased spaces) including scoping and optimizing the layout of critical operational systems as well as overseeing the maintenance renewals of related infrastructure and equipment. This role requires significant experience in specialized and diverse systems and building types (i.e. residential, research-intensive, academic, etc.).

The Facilities Engineer will not directly perform/complete design work but will oversee Consulting Engineers who do.

Duties

  • Set University guidelines, champion the data collection and use with Facilities & Operations.
  • Determining facility and equipment specifications.
  • Analyzing project costs and preparing budgets.
  • Scope and oversee the implementation of facility expansion, layout, various systems, and quality controls.
  • Work within the BIM and Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) institutional implementation strategies.  
  • Planning and coordinating infrastructure and equipment maintenance schedules and activities.
  • Coordinating and overseeing contractors performing maintenance activities.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant regulations, building codes, and health and safety standards.
  • Liaising with technical stakeholders and providing oversight for facility condition assessments.
  • Identifies and manages strategic maintenance requirements that involve integration across multiple sites or asset groups.
  • Analyses maintenance data to identify improvement actions for asset strategies and tactics.
  • Guide and support Trades Infrastructure Maintenance and Operations technical staff on or operating issues or projects.
  • Develop quality management processes including reviews of construction packages (performance and property specifications) to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Ensure appropriate contract administration is completed and appropriate code schedules are completed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering related discipline or equivalent accredited Degree in Architecture.
  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience as a Facilities or Building Engineer or similar role.
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) or Architect with the Alberta Association of Architects (AAA). Consideration will be given to Certified Engineering Technologist (CET), Professional Technologist (P.Tech) or Architectural Technologists with extensive related industry experience (15+ years).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Building Information Modelling (BIM), Integrated Work Management Systems (IWMS) as well as modern electronic document management systems.
  • PMI PMP Certification would be considered an asset.
