RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF THE MUHC
The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The exercise physiologist participates in the rehabilitation program for people with a range of chronic diseases.

General Duties
The incumbent will work as clinical exercise physiologist in a hospital setting, providing expert advice on exercise for people with a range of chronic diseases, including coronary heart disease, diabetes, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The incumbent will also be in charge of:
• Performing fitness test to accurately assess functional and physiological capacities,
• Developing tailored fitness training programs adapted to patient’s comorbidities and physical status,
• Providing benchmark physiological information to enable long-term training development,
• Raisinh awareness of health and fitness issues and promote the benefits of sport and exercise,
• Performing a range of investigations, including exercise tolerance tests, to assess patient risk,
• Working directly with patients on how to make changes to their lifestyle and promote physical activity.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Monitor in-hospital training sessions and reassess rehabilitation training plans on a regular basis,
• Perform exercise data collection.


Education / Experience

Education: Degree in sports science (Bachelors in Kinesiology or similar)
Graduate degree in sports science will be valued

Work Experience:
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in exercise physiologist
Clinical research experience preferred


Required Skills

• Excellent French and English, spoken and written,
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills,
• Ability to work independently or with teams with minimum supervision,
• Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities,
• Drive to continually learn and grow,
• Professional behavior.


Additional information

Status: Temporary, part time
Pay Scale: $29.12 to $54.08/hour Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: 1 hours/week
Work Site: Glen site
