Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Event, Theatre and Hospitality Services (ETHS) is a division of the Finance and Commercial Operations area of Mount Royal University (MRU). ETHS encompasses the Theatre, Conference and Hospitality service operations of MRU and is responsible for booking and executing exceptional quality events in MRU's performance venues (Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts, Ross Glen Hall, Wright Theatre, Nickle Theatre and associated classroom and event spaces). ETHS is home of the Taylor Centre Centre for the Performing Arts, its Concert Season and Bella Live from your Couch virtual presentation seasons as well as being considered one of the top 5 roadhouse venues in Calgary.

Our Event Liaisons lead the Front of House (FOH) team and are responsible for the smooth operation of the venue floor during events at the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts and various other campus venues of significance including Ross Glen Hall and the Wright & Leacock Theatres. The Event Liaison is responsible for managing the FOH floor staff (ushers, head ushers, box office) while implementing FOH policies and responsibilities and monitoring staff attendance and their timeclock entries. 

Our Event Liaisons are the conduit between our venues and will also have a keen focus on an exceptional patron, presenter and artist experience. Event Liaisons report to the Manager through show reports and at the end of each shift. Our Event Liaisons lead the Front of House (FOH) team and are responsible for the smooth operation of the venue floor during events at the Taylor Centre for the Performing Arts and various other campus venues of significance including Ross Glen Hall and the Wright & Leacock Theatres.

The position will work 14 hours per week on average, commensurate with activity levels.


Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the smooth operation of the floor and supervision of the FOH team during events
  • Signing FOH staff in & out and ensuring that there are no appearance or tardiness issues
  • Main conduit between our venues and the overall event experience
  • Interacting with the patrons, presenter or artist as required for their specific needs during a performance or event
  • Coordinating with the Back of House (BOH) - technical staff on the loading of the house at the top of an event, event interval and following an event
  • Coordination as required with MRU departments such as parking and security services

Qualifications
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in the entertainment or hospitality industry managing FOH related activities
  • Experience from a reputable establishment of similar size (500+ patrons per service)
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to problem solve and troubleshoot solutions with clients and guests as needed
  • Operational knowledge of audio/visual equipment
  • Strong knowledge in computer usage and applications in Microsoft and Google applications
  • All Event Liaisons require Proserve certification
    • If you do not already have your ProServe certificate, you will be required to complete your ProServe training within 30days of being hired
    • If needed, ProServe certification can be obtained through MRU upon employment
  • Additionally, Event Liaisons require Basic First Aid certification
    • If you do not already have your Basic First Aid training, you will be required to complete your training after being hired
    • If needed, Basic First Aid certification can be obtained through MRU upon employment
  • Flexible work hours, including day or evening shifts during the week and/or the weekend
  • Must be 18 years of age or older, with Grade 12 or equivalent

Salary:                 $20 - $25 per hour commensurate with experience
