The Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Office is focused on making SAIT a more equitable and inclusive place to work and study. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), we are looking to hire an EDI Specialist (Research) to join the team. This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension.
The EDI Specialist- Research will apply their expertise to work closely with internal and external stakeholders—across the institution and beyond—on a variety of initiatives to implement the EDI Strategy (2020-2025) and move the needle forward on making SAIT a more inclusive place to work and study.
The role will focus specifically on embedding the principles of Indigenization, equity, diversity and inclusion into the Applied Research and Innovation Services (ARIS) department at SAIT. It is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Indigenization/EDI for ARIS including the self-assessment working group, supporting grant funding applications, monitoring ongoing progress and reporting on achievements. The EDI Specialist thinks critically and exercises tact and diplomacy to meet others where they are as a guide on their respective learning journeys.   
The Role
    • Education and Training 
    • Strategically plan, facilitate, and evaluate workshops and training that align with the institution's EDI objectives and deliverables.

    • Working Groups and Subcommittees 
    • Apply specialized expertise to lead the self-assessment working group for Indigenization and equity, diversity and inclusion.
    • Oversee the ongoing continuous improvement to strengthen the position of ARIS when applying for federal grant funding 

    • Strategy and Relationships 
    • Coordinate all aspects of Indigenization and EDI for ARIS 
    • Provide specialized expertise and assistance to departments/units with the goal of integrating the principles of equity, diversity, inclusion into research processes and campus culture.
    • Strategically build relationships with stakeholders to quickly understand requirements and business objectives.

    • Communications
    • Research and draft recommendations for policies, procedures and best practices related to EDI in higher education.
    • Engage with departments and stakeholders to ensure an integrated and strategic approach to awareness campaigns and events throughout the year.
    • Collaborate within the communications department to co-create key messaging for content in order to maximize sharing and exposure.

Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum
    • University degree or equivalent in an EDI-related or applied research-related discipline 
    • 3-5 years of experience working in applied research, Indigenization, or other equity, diversity and inclusion fields.

    • Preferred
    • Canadian Certified Inclusion Professional 
    • Prosci Change Practitioner certification
    • Experience applying for recognition with federal research initiatives  
    • Experience working in a research-intensive environment 
    • Experience building strategy and relationships with internal stakeholders and external community partners
    • Strong knowledge of intersecting identities and experience with guiding others along their personal EDI journeys 
    • Experience designing and facilitating educational opportunities (workshops, online learning, toolkits, resources) for adult learners
    • Lived experience of inequity and discrimination as a member of an equity-deserving group
    • Strong knowledge of EDI principles, frameworks and best practice in higher education 

    • Skills Required
    • Strong project management skills with ability to set sub-goals and timelines
    • Ability to hold space for those who have been impacted by inequities and those who want to learn more about equity, diversity and inclusion
    • Some experience working in complex organizations or on complex projects, preferably in higher education, that require the ability to navigate large systems when implementing change
    • Experience handling contentious matters with sensitivity, confidentiality and balance
    • Ability to think critically, demonstrate tact and diplomacy, and work independently

Salary range: $58,000 - $76,000
Paid Leave: 4 Weeks Vacation / 14 Flex Days per year
Hours Per Week: 37.5
