DUTIES

The Enterprise Systems Supervisor is responsible for leading IT related projects and supervising the work of direct report(s) and other TRU staff.  The role’s responsibilities also include building or installing new applications and systems, maintaining and enhancing existing applications and systems, and providing inter-process and intersystem communications.  The Enterprise Systems Supervisor must have a broad range of technical competencies and experiences, while continuing to keep abreast of industry trends and best practices.  This position is responsible for the independent analysis of problems or tasks and for calling upon their own judgment and experience to decide on the most appropriate way forward.  This position is the first point of guidance and advisement for all junior and mid-level staff within the Enterprise Systems team.


MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Direct supervision of Software Analyst(s), co-op student(s), work-study student(s), and external contractor(s) including planning and scheduling of their work and handling difficulties resulting from the work.
  • Lead and plan IT related projects, supervise the work of direct report(s), and coordinate the work of a broad spectrum of other TRU Staff across the university.
  • Accountable for the training, cross-training, and job shadowing arrangements of all junior and mid-level staff within Enterprise Systems.
  • Performs the work of Software Analyst(s) to cover vacations, leaves and busy times of the year.
  • Responsible for building or installing new applications and systems, maintaining and enhancing existing applications and systems, and providing inter-process and intersystem communications.  
  • Lead development projects building new systems; enhancing and maintaining existing systems. 
  • Define operating standards, policies and procedures for staff, contractor(s) and consultant(s) working in our technology environments or within institution guided technology orientated projects.  Establish and ensure that mission critical projects meet timelines; monitoring and establishing quality control guidelines; ensures standards compliance and monitors resource usage.
  • Conduct reviews of systems, application designs, implementation plans and interfacing structures to ensure overall quality and conformance of information technology to industry and TRU standards to maintain high standards in systems performance, applications and systems programming, data integrity and security for diverse, mission critical computing environments and services. 
  • Review detailed IT specifications, schedules and implementation plans that are produced by team member(s), contractor(s), service provider(s) and other university staff.
  • Regularly engage in problem solving in both a technical and non-technical sense at various levels of the university such as with technical staff, managers, directors, senior management and external partner organizations.
  • Give technical presentations to staff and various committees.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION:

    • A Bachelor’s degree in an Information Technology related area or equivalent 


    EXPERIENCE:

    • Seven years related experience including:
      • Two years previous experience in a management or supervisory role
      • Five years recent and related experience including web and other application development, enterprise RDBMS, and ERP

    • Ability to deal with application systems user(s), coworker(s) and external vendor(s) with courtesy and tact
    • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
    • Demonstrated ability to plan and organize work
    • Demonstrated ability to lead teams on operational and project tasks
    • Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise relational database management systems
    • Ability to exercise considerable independent action to make critical decisions


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Sitting at desk and computer for long periods

    The salary for the above position is determined by the Collective Agreement with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 4879, as it presently exists.
