Reporting to the Director, Sustainability Operations & Services, Facilities & Services, the Energy Manager will spearhead energy savings initiatives for facilities at St. George Campus and work within the criteria established by the Toronto Hydro/Independent Electricity System Operator’s (IESO) saveONenergy Program (link: https://saveonenergy.ca/ ). This position will also assess potential thermal energy savings related to electrical systems (e.g. reduce thermal loads through operational changes and variable frequency drives (VFD’s) on fans and/or pumps).
The Energy Manager will primarily be responsible for identifying, qualifying, quantifying, assessing, reporting on and assisting with the implementation of such initiatives through preliminary and detailed engineering studies, establishing and maintaining a database designed to track and monitor energy usage and progress towards energy saving goals. Through Monitoring & Targeting and Measurement and Verification protocols, the Energy Manager will report on the progress of all energy savings activities and benchmarks, analyze energy consumption, set targets, quantify savings and produce quarterly progress reports.
In addition, this position will establish short and long term goals for energy savings, oversee upgrade projects aimed at meeting specific peak demand and energy savings targets (e.g. sub-metering project, demand reduction).
The Energy Manager will support the development of awareness programs designed to promote both large and small scale initiatives that will result in significant, permanent energy savings; liaise with other departments to effect recommended changes to achieve established goals and co-ordinates projects, or works in collaboration with other project managers.
Degree in mechanical or electrical engineering; licensed professional engineer in the Province of Ontario.
Several years experience in the field of energy management within the commercial and institutional sectors.
Proficiency in the use of standard office computer applications; expert level skill in utility database development and maintenance, invoice review for technical compliance. Facility with statistical analysis, monitoring and methodologies as related to energy use (i.e., Metrix, HAP, Tableau)
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to write for publication and create and deliver presentations. Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to gain consensus. Excellent organizational, time management and project management skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Budget management skills.
Notes: This is a two-year term position.
