Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Academic Support Officer, the Elsie MacGill Learning Centre Assistant (EMLC) is responsible for assisting with registration and orientation activities for all first-year students; including delivery of the SAFE (Self-Assessment For Engineering) test. The EMLC Assistant is primarily responsible for overseeing the administration of the Elsie MacGill Learning Center (EMLC) which provides free peer-led academic support initiatives to engineering students. The incumbent is responsible for the administration of the EMLC resources and for the supervision of part-time student staff (scholars).

The Administrator liaises with administrative and student services staff both within the Faculty and the other University departments to coordinate complementary academic support for engineering students.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Experience in administering academic support services;
• Successful supervisory experience with demonstrated commitment to student staff mentoring, training, and development;
• Experience in reporting and assessment.
• Experience working in academic support environments within a university setting;
• Significant experience developing and overseeing peer-based learning support initiatives;
• Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly in presentations;
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to foster a collegial work environment;
• Experience in program development for a diverse student body consisting of students from different cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds;
• Advanced organizational skills and problem solving skills;
• Advanced computer skills: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Banner, cuLearn, etc.
• Ability to initiate and complete projects with minimal supervision.
• There may be significant time constraints that create the need for a flexible schedule during certain time periods.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• A University Degree.
• Two or more years’ relevant experience in a learning centre administration in a post-secondary institution with demonstrated experience in student staff supervision.
