The School of Health and Public Safety at SAIT prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care sector. The Opportunity
The School of Health and Public Safety (HPS) at SAIT prepares students for the work demands of the healthcare sector across Alberta, Canada and abroad. We offer specialized training in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, professional assistant programs, information management and training for wellness professionals. We’re searching for a resourceful individual, with strong organizational skills to manage the nuclear medicine lab and support the instructors and students in the diagnostic imaging programs. You will maintain quality control documents and ensure radiation safety following Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) regulations
Additionally you work collaboratively with other educational technologists and instructors to maintain the diagnostic imaging labs and the School of Health and Public Safety equipment and supplies.  
The Role
    • Steward of lab equipment and supplies for the Nuclear Medicine Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography programs - 65%
    • Calibrates and performs quality control testing on NMT equipment
    • Maintains and updates DMS equipment and lab supplies
    • Attends laboratory sessions when requested to assist instructional staff in safe and correct use of laboratory equipment use 
    • Assays, dispenses, and disposes of radioactive material
    • Monitors laboratory areas for radiation levels
    • Coordinates with the other educational technologists regarding supplies and equipment maintenance 
    • Obtains and administers dosimeters for the NMT & MRT programs
    • Maintains dosimeter records
    • Maintains and updates laboratory set-up manuals and QC logbooks
    • Sets up and takes down NMT/DMS laboratories for NMT/DMS lab courses as required from faculty. 
    • Cover off for MRT educational technologist when required
    • Maintains radiation protection records and assists RSO in compliance with CNSC regulations
    • Performs other housekeeping tasks as required (i.e. laundry, storage spaces)

    • Performs supply and equipment management for DI - 25%
    • Manages equipment maintenance requirements and repairs
    • Performs regular preventative maintenance on instruments or schedules technician to perform maintenance
    • Maintains equipment records/logs for procedures, results, and preventative maintenance / repairs
    • Initiates and purchases supply and equipment orders, as funds permit and/or as directed by Academic Chair
    • Performs supply inventory management and reorder processes
    • Evaluates new equipment and supplies, recommending acceptance or rejection
    • Makes recommendations to the Academic Chair about capital equipment needs for the School’s capital equipment list or whenever solicited for feedback
    • Manages capital asset disposal by filling out applicable form with final approval from Academic Chair
    • With other program Ed Techs, performs capital asset inventory on regular basis filling out applicable form(s) with final approval from Academic Chair/Associate Dean/Dean

    • Performs supply and equipment management for Health and Public Safety (HPS) - 2%
    • Orders N95 fit-testing and first-aid supplies for School
    • Arranges to have N95 fit-testing equipment calibrated annually
    • Performs N95 mask fit-testing for HPS students and staff
    • Supports HPS inventory management processes and recommends efficiencies to processes
    • Provides emergency backup supply and equipment management support to School programs as a cover-off for other Ed Techs
    • In alignment to institutional direction, supports ordering of supplies/equipment or workplace preparation required to manage pandemic response

    • Provides feedback for continuous program improvement - 3%
    • Formally through annual program review process
    • Informally at team meetings, communication with instructors and/or Academic Chair
    • Participates in program and department meetings

    • Promotes professionalism and safety in the workplace through participating in regular workplace inspections ensuring lab facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, and workable condition and reporting unsafe practices/preparing incident reports - 5%
    • Coordinates appropriate disposal of biohazardous wastes and chemicals according to legislation and institute procedures
    • Reports unsafe practices/preparing incidents reports
    • Initiates Helpline requests concerning lab rooms and follow up on work orders
    • Maintains SDS and WHMIS requirements
    • Conducts safety tours/orientation for new DI staff
    • Maintains necessary documentation for COR safety audit
    • Develops standard operating procedures for DI equipment

Qualifications & Experience
    • Diploma in Nuclear Medicine Technology from an accredited program
    • Previous experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist
    • Transport of Dangerous Goods class 7 certificate (to be completed at SAIT)
    • Competency in Nuclear Medicine Technology instrumentation
    • Competency in Nuclear Medicine Technology techniques and procedures
    • Competency in Radiation Protection and Safety techniques
    • Radiation Safety Officer training preferred
    • Strong communication, both written and verbal
    • Excellent organizational and time management
