SAIT’s School of Manufacturing, Automation & Transportation provides the skills-based training and development to prepare students for a career in Alberta's rapidly growing oil and gas, transportation, manufacturing and automation sectors. The Opportunity
Reporting to the Academic Chair, as the Lab Technician you play a crucial role in setting up and maintaining the Aero Centre labs, associated areas, and related equipment. The Role
    • Ensure the availability and distribution of Aero Centre tools, test equipment, parts, materials, hardware, safety equipment, and shop supplies to students and instructors
    • Collaborating with instructional staff to purchase, design, construct and install equipment and devices used for student training
    • Maintain training aids, test equipment, shop equipment, and hand tools
    • Operate and maintain ground support equipment
    • Perform general maintenance on the Aero Centre’s aircraft
    • Process incoming and outgoing shipments
    • Maintain inventory levels while optimizing cost and storage space
    • Handle dangerous goods materials according to guidelines
    • Maintain an organized hangar stores area to ensure efficiency
    • Participate in hangar, lab, and shop area set up to enhance student learning and safety
    • Support programs with setting up and participating in trade shows, career days, info sessions, orientations, and industry-related events
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for BGIS and other contractors
    • Interact with students providing them with an industry genuine stores experience

Qualifications & Experience
    • Minimum certificate, diploma or associate degree in a technical trade, with preference to a relevant field such as aerospace technology, avionics, or maintenance
    • A minimum of 1-2 years of experience working in a laboratory or technical setting, preferably in an educational institution or aerospace industry

Knowledge and Skills
    • Strong knowledge of laboratory equipment, tools, and procedures, including their safe and effective use
    • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, and faculty members
    • Familiarity with relevant safety regulations, protocols, and best practices to maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment
    • Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of hand-tools and manufacturing processes 
    • Proficiency in using computer software and applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite, laboratory management software, and other relevant tools
    • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development in the field
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Salary range: $55,182.40 - $73,257.60
Hours Per Week: 40
