DURATION: 240 hours (approximately 10 hours per week for 24 weeks), starting October 4, 2021 and ending April 3, 2022

REMUNERATION: $ 25 per hour

DUTIES/JOB DESCRIPTION: Professor Nicolas Gendron-Carrier is seeking to hire up to two highly motivated graduate students to work as Casual Research Assistants (RA). The job will entail close collaboration on a number of new empirical projects in applied microeconomics.

In carrying out this work, the RA will be required to learn STATA and Python to use data and build their knowledge of econometric methods. Student training associated will focus on familiarity with research methods and theories and building skills like data management and analysis, research communication, and project management. The RA will gain valuable experience, most of which is transferrable to both academic job settings and for positions in the private sector or government. The ability to program efficiently and process large data sets are skills in high demand in many industries. The RA will also learn to use state-of-the-art econometric methods, methods which are now widely used in academia, business, and government.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong background in quantitative methods and statistics
  • Strong programming skills
  • Knowledge of Stata and Python
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to learn new analytical and computing techniques
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team
