Founded in 1910 and located in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Mount Royal University grew into a vibrant college in the 1930s and became a mid-sized university in 2009. Mount Royal University is located in the traditional territories of the Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and the people of the Treaty 7 region in southern Alberta, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, the Kainai, the Tsuut'ina and the Iyarhe Nakoda. We are situated on land where the Bow River meets the Elbow River. The traditional Blackfoot name of this place is "Mohkinstsis," which we now call the city of Calgary. MRU Camps is looking for enthusiastic individuals who are interested in sharing their knowledge, passion, and expertise with children and youth in Early Childhood Development, Child and Youth Care, and Elementary Education fields. Under the supervision of the Early Learning & Elementary Education (ELEE) Supervisor, the Instructor is responsible for delivering lessons and leading campers through a variety of activities such as crafts, sports, and games. Additional responsibilities include the completion of required administrative duties and maintaining smooth, cooperative, and professional relations with staff, campers, and parents. Camp Instructors will also work closely with Camp Leaders and Volunteers. 

These are casual positions ending August 30, 2024. The hours of work are between 7:00am – 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. Camp Instructors must be available for all 9 weeks of employment (July 2 - August 30, 2024)  and orientation week (June 24 – 27, 2024).

All MRU Camps staff are required to provide the following at their own cost prior to commencement:

• Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search (valid within one year)
• Standard First Aid (valid within two years) and CPR Level C (valid within one year). 

• Plan, deliver and modify program lessons and activities.
• Ensure safety, well-being and enjoyment of campers from ages 4 - 9 years old.
• Make accommodations for campers with varying learning needs.
• Work collaboratively with co-Leaders and Instructors to deliver daily programs.
• Assist camp Leaders with recreational and classroom activities.
• Supervise and coordinate lunchtime, before and after care.
• Administrative tasks associated with the program including camper registration, incident reports, and attendance.
• Attend staff orientation and any necessary staff meetings.
• Communicate professionally with parents and guardians about their child’s experience at camp.

• Experience working in a childcare/educational setting delivering lesson plans and curriculum (minimum 1 years).
• Previous experience working or volunteering in camp related or recreational activities is an asset.
• Previous experience with curriculum design and implementation is an asset.
• The ability to work well in a team and individually.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Previous experience in or a passion for Early Childhood Development, Education, Health and Physical Education, and/or coaching/teaching.
• Must be available for 44 hours per week (8.75 hours per day), Monday to Friday, July 2 - August 30, 2024.
• Must be available for mandatory staff training  June 24 – 27, 2024.
