Duties and Responsibilities:

The university’s Department of Facilities Management and Planning is currently seeking a high performing leader to direct its Planning, Design and Construction team. The position is well-suited to someone seeking to mentor others to excellence while providing high level execution of project management and administration of capital construction and renovations on campus
The Department’s mandate is to be a strategic resource for Carleton, to protect and promote the University’s operational sustainability strategy through effective project management.

This critical management role will lead a team responsible for supporting the development and management of the construction, planning and design projects for the entire university.

The role involves providing strategic counsel to executives and senior leadership, deans, faculty and staff related to its areas of accountabilities.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Knowledge of leadership practices in people management, strategic planning and risk management, policy development, financial management and stakeholder relationship management
• Knowledge of construction and building based project management
• Knowledge of facilities management and maintenance, construction and contracting
• Knowledge of planning, architecture and engineering principles and practices
• Knowledge of procurement and contact law
• Knowledge of the relevant legislative environment including health and safety


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, or a related discipline
• Minimum of ten years of previous experience in progressive leadership roles
