Job Summary
Dalhousie Medicine New Brunswick (DMNB) is one of the two campuses of Dalhousie Faculty of Medicine. The main administrative office is located on the UNB Campus in Saint John. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the Director Operations will be responsible for directing and managing the daily operations of the administrative and operational units within DMNB (undergraduate medical education, student and resident affairs, continuing professional development and administration) in a multi-site environment ensuring integration with the operational units within the Office of the Dean.
Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and direct the daily operations of DMNB units in NB, ensuring the effective and efficient management of administrative processes to ensure judicious use of human, financial and physical space resources.
  • Serve as the key administrative liaison between the Associate Dean DMNB, Horizon Health network and academic departments on matters relating to appointments, tenure and promotion.
  • Design, develop, implement and oversee processes to facilitate faculty access to systems and resources and ensure faculty have the opportunity to fully engage in academic and/or research activities.
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of records for statistical and accreditation purposes in accordance with the confidentiality/privacy policy of the university.
  • Design and implement a systematic approach to student recruitment to meet the widening accessibility criteria.
  • Lead the strategic planning and management of human resources including recruitment, training, staff reviews and development, coaching, discipline and termination.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Dalhousie’s vaccine mandate has been suspended at this time, and employees no longer need to provide proof of full vaccination. However, health and safety risks to our community will continue to be monitored and a vaccine mandate may be reinstated if necessary. The guidelines in NB may be different.
Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Human Resource Management or a related discipline plus a minimum of eight years’ of relevant experience in a progressive leadership role (or equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and managing diverse administrative units.
  • Demonstrated experience managing staff in an unionized environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with senior level management in a trusted advisory role, as well as the diverse constituents of the University, Health Authority, and communities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and within time constraints, while maintaining an ability to effectively collaborate with Dalhousie administrators, external partners, and funding agencies.
  • Proven excellent communication (verbal and written) skills.
Assets
  • Knowledge of project management principles and methodologies and an understanding of change management principles.
  • Relevant experience in a university health education or medical education program.
