The Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) is a world-renowned biomedical and hospital research centre. Located in Montreal, Quebec, the Institute is the research arm of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine at McGill University. The RI-MUHC is supported in part by the Fonds de recherche du Québec - Santé (FRQS).

Position summary
The CHILD-BRIGHT Network is an innovative pan-Canadian research network that aims to improve life outcomes for children with brain-based developmental disabilities and their families (www.child-bright.ca). Under the direction of the Nominated Principal Investigator (NPI), the incumbent is responsible for effective operational management of the central office team, for the management of all inquiries and reporting for the more than 450 core members, and for the various core administrative functions of the network, including financial systems, communications and network programs.

The CHILD-BRIGHT Network is headquartered at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC). Using family and child-focused approaches, we work to create novel interventions to optimize development, promote health outcomes, and deliver responsive and supportive services. Co-directed by scientific investigators at the BC Children’s Hospital, Phase 2 of CHILD-BRIGHT is made possible thanks to a four-year grant by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) under Canada’s Strategy for Patient-Oriented Research (SPOR), and 15 generous funding partners from public and private sectors across Canada.

General Duties
• Contributes to the program development, guides performance monitoring and reporting of all activities of the network while ensuring the timely and high-quality delivery of all CHILD-BRIGHT goals and administrative milestones, in collaboration with the NPI and Executive.
• Defines and oversees all management, business and administrative processes and procedures for all CHILD-BRIGHT activities, including those of the 5 network programs including financial, legal, information technology, contractual, human resources, partnership development, communications and training activities within the framework of the RI-MUHC.
• Manages the complex financial operations of the network, which currently receives funding from CIHR and other funding partners and is distributed across multiple institutions and sites.
• Attracts, develops, motivates and supervises CHILD-BRIGHT staff to ensure the successful delivery of CHILD-BRIGHT programs and foster a culture of excellence, team spirit, outstanding service to investigators, and a passion for service to children with disabilities
• As the administrative member of the Executive Committee (ExC), ensures that strategic plans devised at the ExC are executed, and exercises strong judgement in identifying and informing the NPI and ExC when day-to-day issues arise that may have serious outcomes
• Develops and implements strategies to facilitate and ensure that CHILD-BRIGHT and its investigators comply with CIHR guidelines and partnership agreements, and serves as the primary liaison with investigators on related administrative and financial matters
• Stays abreast of priorities of current and potential federal, provincial, academic, philanthropic, and other collaborators
• Assists in developing and supporting excellent research and funding partnerships and networking experiences
• Plays a key role in organizing and writing proposals, agreements, and reports
• Plays a key role in identifying and strategizing fundraising strategies for the network
• Ensures ethical conduct, integrity and a high degree of professionalism in all CHILD-BRIGHT business activities.


Education / Experience

Education: Master's Degree
Field of Study:
Degree in Business or Health or other related discipline.

Other education considered an asset for this position:
MBA considered an asset.

Work Experience:
• Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience in increasingly senior positions with a proven track record on results
• Direct experience in complex project management
• Strong financial skills (strategic budgeting and variance analysis)
• Management experience of a research network or complex research program considered an asset.

Language Requirements:
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, proficiency in French an asset

Additional information

Status: Temporary, full time (35-hour workweek)
Pay Scale: $85,503.60 to $158,776.80. Commensurate with education and experience
Work Shift: Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30
Work Site: Hybrid
