Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Digital Content & Marketing Coordinator, and reporting to the Assistant Manager, Digital Marketing and Communications, the Digital Content & Marketing Assistant develops, posts & monitors content across all Ravens Recreation web and social sites, facilitates paid campaigns to promote recreation programs and services on social media channels; prepares promotional materials and digital assets for recreation and fitness related marketing campaigns; prepares digital content schedules; captures photo and video assets for use online, writes content on the departments fitness and recreational programs for regular electronic update/promotional emails; provides monthly reports on social media and website analytics; makes recommendations on communications strategies; and participates in on-campus and off-campus recreation related events.

The Digital Content and Marketing Assistant is a member of the department’s marketing team and will provide reports and make recommendations on the marketing strategies for the recreation portfolio as well as ensure regular collaboration of the recreational coordinators to ensure consistent messaging in communication, design and priorities.

Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Excellent writing skills are required to prepare and edit website information, broadcast emails, multimedia presentations and social media postings.
• Must be able to prepare error free marketing emails for on-campus recreation. programs and services, multimedia presentations, and social media postings.
• Working knowledge of various computer software such as Outlook and other Microsoft Office programs, Adobe Suite programs (Photoshop, Indesign, Illustrator, Premiere etc.), email marketing tools (MailChimp & Campaign Monitor), social media analytics tools (Sprout Social & Hootsuite), and Google Analytics.
• Demonstrated understanding of web content strategy and AODA guidelines.
• Ability to learn and keep up-to-date with apps/programs for creating and monitoring social media content, graphic design, and technology related to the improvement of overall marketing initiatives.
• Photography and video skills are required.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills as well as a strong knowledge of Carleton University and the Ottawa region.
• Capable of effectively organizing and handling a heavy workload with multiple simultaneous deadlines, using good judgment.
• Resourceful with the ability to take initiative while being an effective team member.
• Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
• English language fluency is required.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Completion of a 3-year degree or diploma in marketing/advertising, journalism, graphic design, communications, multimedia design, social media or equivalent.
• Three years of experience in recreation and/or sport marketing, social media, content curation, graphic design, preferably in multi-stakeholder demographic environment with experience in creative and promotional writing including 2 years of experience in photo and video editing.
• Experience in developing content for and monitoring social media sites is important, as is experience in preparing inbound marketing emails.

Important Note Regarding Pandemic Related Operations:

This position is required to work on campus. Exceptionally, since March 2020, many staff and faculty at Carleton University have been working from home in order to comply with public health requirements while continuing to provide services to support the operational functioning of the university. We are currently in the process of identifying positions that need to work on campus as part of our return to campus process. This position may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health requirements or it may have been identified as one of the roles that are required to work on campus. If this position is required to work on campus, the successful candidate will be informed of the health and safety measures that are in place to ensure their safety on campus. If there is a requirement to work remotely (it is possible that there could be a requirement to work both remotely and on campus), the successful candidate will work with the manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. Please note that once public health requirements permit, Carleton University will resume normal on campus operations and at that point there will be a timely notification provided by the manager and the requirement to working full time physically onsite will resume. Therefore, we are looking for candidates currently in or looking to relocate to the Ottawa area.

Additionally, Carleton University is continuing to maintain a safe work environment and requires mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 as per Public Health recommendations under the Reopening Ontario Act. As Carleton University requires that staff be available to attend on-campus meetings and to work, as required, in person, the successful candidate will be required to comply with this policy and be fully vaccinated before commencing employment.
