Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Electronic Media and Communications Officer, the Digital Content and Communications Coordinator develops content for use in Undergraduate Recruitment communications channels and at Undergraduate Recruitment events; writes, edits and contributes to the planning of Undergraduate Recruitment messaging; monitors and creates content for online platforms, websites and social media ; contributes to the development of content schedules; collaborates to achieve consistent messaging in communications and design; compiles analytics reports, and stays up-to-date with digital trends to make recommendations on communications strategies; builds events and campaigns in Carleton360; and participates in Undergraduate Recruitment events to liaise with prospective students and families.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Excellent writing skills are required to prepare and edit website information, broadcast emails, multimedia presentations and social media postings.
• Broad knowledge of various computer software such as CRM systems, PowerPoint and other presentation software, WordPress, Dreamweaver, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, Fireworks, Photoshop, Illustrator, Word, Excel and Access.
• Ability to learn and keep up-to-date with new computer software and technology to maintain websites and develop content for social sites, email campaigns, merge databases, prepare multimedia presentations, and update information and databases on the website.
• High degree of knowledge and comfort with social media and other emerging platforms for engaging with prospective students.
• High degree of attention to detail.
• Strong photography, video and audio capturing and editing skills.
• Excellent communication skills as well as a strong knowledge of Carleton University, the Ottawa region and the Canadian education system. The incumbent must have the ability to project a positive image when speaking to target audiences. Able to professionally and tactfully interact with prospective students and their families and guidance counsellors in a respectable manner.
• Broad knowledge of University academic programs, structure, and admissions.
• Capable of effectively organizing and handling a heavy workload and working independently using good judgment.
• Resourceful with the ability to take initiative.
• Ability to perform as an effective team member, prioritizing competing workloads and meeting deadlines
• Ability and willingness to travel and to work evenings and weekends at recruitment events. Travel and time commitments will usually be for a few days.
• Owns a valid driver’s license.
• English language fluency is required. French language although not mandatory is a strong asset.


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• Completion of a 3-year university degree or diploma in public relations, communications, marketing, multimedia design or social media (or equivalent).
• 4 years of experience in recruitment, marketing, public relations, communications or journalism, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
• Experience in creative and promotional writing, including 2 years of experience in photo and video editing.
• Experience in developing content for and monitoring social media sites is important, as is experience in preparing multimedia presentations.

Important Note Regarding Pandemic Related Operations:

This position is required to work on campus. Exceptionally, since March 2020, many staff and faculty at Carleton University have been working from home in order to comply with public health requirements while continuing to provide services to support the operational functioning of the university. We are currently in the process of identifying positions that need to work on campus as part of our return to campus process. This position may be required to work temporarily remotely due to public health requirements or it may have been identified as one of the roles that are required to work on campus. If this position is required to work on campus, the successful candidate will be informed of the health and safety measures that are in place to ensure their safety on campus. If there is a requirement to work remotely (it is possible that there could be a requirement to work both remotely and on campus), the successful candidate will work with the manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. Please note that once public health requirements permit, Carleton University will resume normal on campus operations and at that point there will be a timely notification provided by the manager and the requirement to working full time physically onsite will resume. Therefore, we are looking for candidates currently in or looking to relocate to the Ottawa area.

Additionally, Carleton University is continuing to maintain a safe work environment and requires mandatory vaccination against COVID-19 as per Public Health recommendations under the Reopening Ontario Act. As Carleton University requires that staff be available to attend on-campus meetings and to work, as required, in person, the successful candidate will be required to comply with this policy and be fully vaccinated before commencing employment.
