The University of Alberta and College of Natural and Applied Sciences invites applications for the appointment of Dean, Faculty of Engineering. The Faculty of Engineering prepares the next generation of engineers by giving our undergraduate and graduate students an unparalleled education with world-class instructors, hybrid learning environments, hands-on lab and field experience, and internship opportunities.

With research and teaching strengths ranging from energy and minerals to climate and the environment, to emerging and advanced technologies and beyond, the Faculty positions students and researchers to uncover the unknown and drive us toward solving the world’s greatest challenges and building a better future for society. The Faculty of Engineering offers 9 fully accredited undergraduate degrees and a wide range of graduate degrees. It includes a full spectrum of departments and schools including: Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, David and Joan Lynch School of Engineering Safety and Risk Management, and an Engineering Co-op Program.

Reporting to the Vice-Provost & College Dean, Natural and Applied Sciences, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering is responsible for the leadership and administration of all aspects of the operations of the Faculty, including budget and fund development. In addition to the role of senior officer of the Faculty, and a member of Deans’ Council, the Dean is a senior administrator of the University. The Dean fosters an environment in which world-leading research and excellence in teaching and engaged scholarship flourish. As the face of the Faculty of Engineering, the Dean is champion of curricular and pedagogical initiatives, research, and scholarship, professional training, global outreach, and recruitment of high-quality faculty and student talent.  The Dean cultivates an environment in which students, faculty and staff thrive.

As Dean, you will have an earned Doctorate or equivalent in Engineering and qualifications commensurate with an appointment at the rank of Professor. In addition, you are a scholar who has maintained an active program in research and teaching within an academic environment. You will be a dynamic and visionary leader with a demonstrated track record of fostering a culture of collegiality and collaboration within a university environment for faculty, staff, and students. With an authentic and demonstrated commitment to, understanding of, and experience leading equity, diversity, and inclusion practices and Indigenous engagement, the successful candidate will drive change and inspire faculty, students, staff, and community partners. You must be licensed, or eligible to be licensed as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Alberta.

This position is a full-time, continuing appointment and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits  and an annual salary of  $290,055 to $429,710. Salary will be commensurate with experience.
