Database Administrator

Position Summary:
The Database Administrator will be responsible for leading the information technology and database needs for integrating new data points, extract, and curate existing clinical data for the purpose of research. A key task will be to facilitate data migration from the current clinical data management software.

The person will be reporting to the Dean (Dr. Elham Emami), the Associate Dean-Clinical affairs (Dr. Nathalie Morin), Division Director (Dr. Jeffrey Myers), and work collaboratively with Dr. Sreenath Madathil at the Faculty of Dentistry, McGill University. 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Support the development and maintenance of clinical data governance model, in compliance with McGill IRB and IT security policies
• Work collaboratively with researchers, and project members to identify their research software and database needs.
• Where required, coordinate the technical team responsible for: (1) programming the electronic data capture software (e.g. REDCap, FileMaker, ABELDent), (2) developing the data storage and management environments, (3) managing and ensuring quality control of data collected and (4) ensuring long-term maintenance and dissemination of data
• Work with researchers to ensure the appropriate design of databases, including data security, integrity
• Design data visualization dashboards using PowerBI, Python Dash or similar platforms
• Curate clinical management data for research, based on the needs of research teams(design, migrate and manage relational databases)
• Conducts descriptive and inferential statistical analyses, including advanced statistical techniques.
• Interact with central IT to communicate needs and coordinate services.
• Any other database related needs recognized in the project

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities

Passionate about digital, healthcare, with a focus on continuous improvement.

• Bachelor’s in computer science, data science or equivalent
• Experience in relational database management
• Knowledge in SQL, FileMaker(optional), dashboards(PowerBI, or similar) and statistical (R, Python) programing languages
• Strong experience with implementation and operation of electronic data capture software, database management, and quality control.
• Expertise with sensitive data lifecycle and safeguarding
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team player
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritize workload
• Demonstrable skills in data science and machine learning techniques are a bonus
• Experience with Dental clinical research and practice management solutions (e.g., ABELDent, Axium) would be an asset.
