Compensation Range
$5,209.17 - $7,485.33 CAD Monthly

In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
The UBC CDC, located at the BCCDC, is hiring a Data Analyst to support the work on climate change adaptation in public health. Working with a team of senior scientists, epidemiologists, and environmental health scientists, the Data Analyst supports the development of data tools that support provincial and regional public health partners on climate change health vulnerability and adaptation assessment, as well as research on public health impacts of climate change-related hazards. The Data Analyst will work with a wide range of data on public health vulnerability to climate change including environmental exposure, population sensitivity, adaptive capacity, and health outcomes. Additional responsibilities include contributing to manuscripts writing and routine reporting to project team members and funders. 

This position is grant-funded with a possibility of extension. 
Organizational Status
The Data Analyst will report directly to the Senior Scientist of the Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Program (CPAP). They may also work collaboratively with other members at CPAP as well as the others at the Environmental Health Services.
Work Performed

•    Compile and manage environmental, health and population demographic data
•    Develop scripts for data analysis, visualization and mapping with proper documentation 
•    Develop scripts for the data tools such as web app application (R Shiny App) 
•    Participate in meetings to discuss and/or contribute to study and protocol development
•    Contribute to preparation of manuscripts and grants
•    Ensure adherence to standards for security, access and storage and management of large health administrative datasets
•    Follows best practices for maintaining data in a secure environment
•    Carry out other duties as required
Consequence of Error/Judgement
The Data Analyst is required to conduct all activities in an ethical manner. All procedures or data recorded must be accurate and must accurately reflect the work performed. All activities are accountable to the Senior Scientist. As data from this effort will be made widely available to a range of data users for surveillance, epidemiological, and policy research, consequences of error could result in erroneous information with negative implications for all of these activities. Confidentiality of highly personal health information and identifiers present in datasets must be protected at all costs.
Supervision Received
The position will report to the Senior Scientists.
Supervision Given
The Data Analyst may provide technical guidance to data product users from provincial or regional partners. 
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

•    A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master’s program in related discipline such as Statistics, Epidemiology, Environmental Health, Public Health or an equivalent combination of graduate education, training and experience. 
•    Experience with large medical/health-related data such as Epidemiology, Health Services Research, or Biostatistics is required.
•    Must be proficient with R programing language. 
•    Experience with environmental epidemiology and/or spatial analysis and GIS mapping is a desirable asset.
•    Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and evaluating data.
•    Ability to maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
•    Excellent ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. 
•    Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others within a team environment, to accept responsibility and to work independently. 
•    Demonstrated ability to efficiently organize work assignments and establish priorities. Excellent time management skills.
