Course Description:

The course is designed to help practicing and future teachers integrate current and emerging technology in their daily teaching practices. It is a practical, hands-on course that is grounded in constructivist learning theory. The participants will learn by engaging in authentic tasks in a project-based learning environment.

Teaching Qualification Requirements:

Degree(s) required:

  • PhD in Educational Psychology, Educational Technology, Learning Sciences, or equivalent

Experience required:

  • Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to apply principles of constructivism to the application of technology in teaching, learning, and assessment
  • Relevant experience in the design, application, use and evaluation of uses of technology in an array of educational contexts
  • Experience in college / university teaching or research on this subject or professional experience in this area

Other requirements:

  • If the applicant has taught this course exactly once previously, she/he must have had satisfactory teaching evaluations in this course that meet the Department’s expectations. This requirement does not apply to applicants who have taught the course at least twice
  • If the applicant has not taught this course previously, but has taught in the hiring unit previously, she/he must have had satisfactory teaching evaluations that meet the Department’s expectations
  • Adherence to evolving program requirements concerning course content and program-developed competencies; course content and references must reflect the most current advances in the field

Additional Information:

Effective dates of appointment are August 21, 2022 to December 10, 2022. Course dates are August 31, 2022 to December 5, 2022. This course will be offered in-person on campus at McGill.

Should government restrictions prohibit in-person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform (e.g., Zoom, WebEx) and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS) . Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
