This posting is for one unionized contractual course-by-course appointment to teach one course as a Course Lecturer. Course lecturer positions are governed by the Collective Agreement between McGill University and McGill Course Lecturers and Instructors Union (MCLIU)-CSN.

Course Number-Section and Title (CRN): EDEC 374 – 742 Education and the Environment (CRN: 1579)
Course Description: Familiarizes students with major environmental issues, engages them in interdisciplinary problem-based inquiries and draws attention to the interrelatedness of biotic and abiotic components of the ecosystem. Promotes understanding of the impact of individual and collective civic and economic choices on environmental resources.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):
Education
- MA in a relevant field (i.e. environmental education, science education) and/or extensive relevant experience as a school educator/pedagogue/community educator
- PhD or equivalent in a relevant field is an asset
Experience
- Expert knowledge and experience in:
- Current issues in sustainability and environmental education
- Science pedagogy, with a focus on environmental education
- Research on science pedagogy, with a focus on environmental education
- Experience as a master teacher/instructor in environmental, science education, or a related field in the Quebec educational system
- Knowledge of the Quebec Education Program (QEP) and the curriculum of the partnering school board with whom this course is being giving in collaboration.
- Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified by Ministère de l’Éducation
- Previous successful experience teaching similar courses in Indigenous communities.
Other
- Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) at the undergraduate or graduate level
- Knowledge of the impact and proven record integrating pedagogical approaches anchored to equity, diversity and inclusion
- Familiarity using myCourses, ZOOM and other similar online platforms to facilitate quality teaching and learning experiences
- Familiarity teaching blended classes is an asset
- Familiarity with the application of a variety of digital teaching and learning tools
- Preferred candidate will have demonstrated cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts and connection to First Nations and Inuit communities.

- Commitment to working with a team of committed and engaged instructors
- Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of course start date
The University may, at its discretion, assign a person of its choice to give this Course/Teaching.
Please note that given the resumption of in-person teaching activities, most courses will be taught in person. Exams may however need to be administered remotely depending, mainly on the size of the class. Course Lecturers will be required to plan accordingly. Should government restrictions prohibit the resumption of in person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform [e.g., Zoom, WebEx] and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS). Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
