This posting is for one unionized contractual course-by-course appointment to teach one course as a Course Lecturer. Course lecturer positions are governed by the Collective Agreement between McGill University and McGill Course Lecturers and Instructors Union (MCLIU)-CSN.

Hiring Unit: Office of First Nation and Inuit Education (OFNIE)

Course Number-Section and Title (CRN): EDEC 289 - 702 Inuktitut Orthography and Grammar (CRN: TBA)

Course Description: Structure and morphology of Inuktitut for teachers working in that language. Use of orthography, both qaliujaaqpait (Roman script) and qaniujaaqpait (syllabics) as established by the Inuit Cultural Association.

CL Credits: 3 (1.5 per Course Lecturer). This course will be team taught.

May 31 – June 4, June 6 – 7: 9:00 am - 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm –3:00 pm. 

June 8: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm & 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Location: Kuujjuarapik. Travel required.

Teaching Qualification Requirements (TQRs):

Education

• A Master’s degree (in exceptional circumstances applicants without a Master’s degree but with significant research or professional experience related to the course content may be considered)

Experience

• Expert knowledge of course content as outlined in the course description.
• Experience teaching in the Quebec elementary/secondary school system
• Familiarity with the 13 professional competencies specified in the Ministère de l’Éducation
• Previous successful experience teaching similar course(s) to pre-service teachers
• Fluent in the Indigenous language targeted for development

Other

• Preferred candidate will have demonstrated cultural awareness of and sensitivity to Indigenous issues in First Nations and Inuit contexts and connection to First Nations and Inuit communities. 
• Must be available to attend course coordination and planning meeting minimum of 2 weeks in advance of the course start date
• Knowledge of the dynamics of the Office of First Nations and Inuit Education’s partnering communities (OFNIE)
• A commitment to prepare and co-create the course outline and materials, if necessary, with a team of committed and engaged instructors.

The University may, at its discretion, assign a person of its choice to give this Course/Teaching.

Please note that, government directives permitting, it is anticipated that most courses will be taught in person. Should government restrictions prohibit in-person teaching, courses will revert to remote teaching. In the event of such a change, Course Lecturers will be advised without delay. Course Lecturers may be required to prepare and deliver teaching material suited to a remote/online teaching environment using a virtual learning platform (e.g., Zoom, WebEx) and the McGill myCourses learning management system. Training and assistance on remote teaching is available through Teaching and Learning Services (TLS).  Course Lecturers are encouraged to record their lectures.
